Class A is for general service and offers limited voltage protection. Class B is for utility service and provides high voltage protection. Class C helmets are for special services and offer no voltage protection. Never use hard hats for anything other than head protection.

The color of a hard hat is also a factor in repelling the heat from the sun. They should be kept clean, and if a hard hat is assigned to someone after having been used by another employee, it shall be sanitized. Also, even if a hard hat is properly inspected and cared for, it should be replaced after five years of use. When a Hard Hat is uncomfortable, workers will stop wearing it. The hard hat is one of the oldest, most widely used, and most important pieces of personal protective equipment (PPE) on the job.
